Transfer ribonucleic acid synthetase activity associated with avian myeloblastosis virus.

Avian myeloblastosis virions purified by conventional techniques were shown to be associated with or to contain transfer ribonucleic acid synthetase activity. Arginine, tryptophan, cystine, and lysine synthetase activities were observed.

Preparation of cells permeable to macromolecules by treatment with toluene: studies of transfer ribonucleic acid nucleotidyltransferase.

Transfer ribonucleic acid (tRNA) nucleotidyltransferase was studied after making cells permeable to macromolecules by treatment with toluene. The conditions of toluene treatment necessary for obtaining maximal activity were defined. Toluene treatment was most efficient when carried out for 5 min at 37 C at pH 9.0 on log-phase cells. No activity could be detected if cells were treated at 0 C, or...

Ribonucleic acid transcriptases in Sendai Virions and infected cells.

Sendai virions contain an enzyme which catalyzes the incorporation of ribonucleotides into ribonucleic acid (RNA). Enzyme activity was optimal at pH 8.0 and 28 C; otherwise conditions were similar to those reported for Newcastle disease virion (NDV) RNA polymerase. The initial rate of RNA synthesis by the Sendai virion enzyme was about 10 pmoles per mg of protein per hr, but after 3 hr of incub...

Pleiotropic phenotype of an Escherichia coli mutant lacking leucyl-, phenylalanyl-transfer ribonucleic acid-protein transferase.

A mutant of Escherichia coli that lacks leucyl-, phenylalanyl-transfer ribonucleic acid-protein transferase had diminished activities of L-phenylalanyl-transfer ribonucleic acid synthetase and tryptophanase, grew faster than its parent with aspartic acid as the sole nitrogen source, accumulated higher levels of enterochelin in the medium during iron limitation, and exhibited an abnormal morphol...
